WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?

After the 2016 election, too many Americans are frustrated by the disconnect between the popular will and the way we elect our President.
Count the Majority was launched by Patrick McWhortor. An Indiana native who grew up in Ohio, McWhortor has lived in Arizona for nearly four decades. He has been involved in community, state and national advocacy throughout those years. He has been an advocate for education and environmental causes. He is a well-known leader in the Arizona nonprofit community. And he is a leader in statewide election reform. He also teaches courses on politics and government in the community.
When he teaches those courses, in class after class, everyone asks McWhortor why we keep the Electoral College. Almost never does he encounter a voter who defends the system. Furthermore, McWhortor remembers the frustration of so many citizens after the 2000 election, when the winner of the popular vote was not elected President. But nothing changed. That frustration returned after the 2016 election, when the popular vote winner once again lost. McWhortor dedicated himself to ensuring that – this time – something changes.
Count the Majority is about change. Count the Majority is about maintaining and growing the momentum for reform.
McWhortor hopes you will join the movement and count yourself as a voice for change.
